INCIDENT: Residential Burglaries

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On 2/18/10, Vermont State Police in Middlesex received reports in the Waterbury Area of residences that had been burglarized. The incidents occurred between 0800 hours and 1700 hours. Various items, including jewelry were taken from both of the residences.

Littleton, NHAfter stopping the accused’s vehicle for suspicious activity, officers Mark Bickford and Justin Hoyt conducted a consent search of the vehicle after detecting that the operator and the three passenders had consumed alcohol and were not of the legal age of 21 years to have/purchase/consume alcoholic beverages in the State of Vermont.  During the search, officers found Heinig to be in possession of marijuana and two types of prescription narcotics(codeine and oxycodone). Heinig admitted that he did not have a prescription for either medication. All parties were issued civil violations for the alcohol. Heinig was cited to appear in Caledonia District Court on  04-05-10 to answer to 1 count of possession of marijuana and 2 counts of possession of a narcotic.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 01/08/2010 State Police responded to a report of a possible underage party on North Main Street in Bradford. Troopers encountered several underage individuals who had been drinking at the residence. John Amanatidis, 23, was arrested for enabling consumption of alcohol by minors and later released on a citation. Adrian Pike,20, was cited for providing false information to police after he lied about his age. Aaron Fleurrey,20, was cited for underage consumption. Several other individuals were given Diversion paperwork. Amanatidis is scheduled to appear in Orange District Court on 02/24/2010. Pike and Fleurrey were cited to appear in Orange District Court on 02/17/2010.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On Thursday, December 17, 2009 at approximately 2222 hours, while on patrol for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program DUI Enforcement Campaign, Officer Breault of the Royalton Police Department stopped a vehicle operated by Dan G. Stevens, 44, of Randolph for driving the wrong way on the I-89 southbound exit ramp in Sharon.

Further investigation revealed Stevens to be operating under the influence of alcohol. Stevens was unable to successfully perform standard field sobriety exercises and submitted to a preliminary breath test. Stevens had a roadside BAC of .209%, and was taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence, 3rd offense, and was processed at the Royalton State Police Barracks. Stevens submitted to an evidentiary breath test and registered a BAC of .172%.  Stevens was lodged at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for lack of $10,000 bail, and was arraigned on the charge the following day.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 12/20/09, at approximately 1217 hrs, Matthew Collar of Deans Mountain Road Moretown, VT called the Vermont State Police to report his silver 2002 Subaru Legacy station wagon bearing VT registration CKR140, was stolen from his residence. Collar advised this occurred sometime between 2300 hrs, on 12/19/09 and 0800 hrs, on 12/20/09.
Prior to Collar’s vehicle being reported stolen, another vehicle reported stolen (green, 2000 Jeep Wrangler) from the Little River Road in Waterbury on 12/20/09, was recovered from over an embankment on the Moretown Common Road. This vehicle was within a half mile of the second stolen vehicle. Owners of both vehicles advised they left their keys in the ignition.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On December 16, 2009 a Williston Police Officer was approached by two people in Wal-Mart advising of a female who was stumbling around and appeared intoxicated.

The officer located the female and observed that she was extremely unsteady on her feet and appeared to be highly intoxicated.  The officer observed the female get behind the wheel of her vehicle and was attempting to start the car. The officer made contact with the female who was identified as Antoinette Sharbonneau, 35 years of age, of Colchester.  Sharbonneau was unable to successfully perform field sobriety exercises and gave a breath sample with the result being .000%.

Sharbonneau admitted to using several prescription medications. She was taken into custody for DUI of drugs and refused to give a sample of blood, and was subsequently issued a citation for DUI refusal and released to a relative.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: State Police were called to a report of a domestic disturbance on Road 101 in Jeffersonville at approximately 2200 hours. Investigation found that Bryce Bartlett, 52, had assaulted his 16 year old step-daughter upon returning home. Troopers also found that Bartlett was intoxicated at the time. Bail was set at $500.00 and Bartlett was lodged at the St. Johnsbury Correctional Center on the charges of Domestic Assault and DUI.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On December 2, 2009 at approximately 1659 hours Vermont State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Road at the intersection of Vermont Route 17 in The Town of Addison for defective equipment. The left rear tail light on the vehicle was out and not functioning. During the stop the registered owner (passenger) of the vehicle Bruce D. Chamberlain produced marijuana he had been smoking in the car just before the stop. Also, in plain view inside the vehicle were 94 Hydrocodone pills that were not prescribed to Chamberlain. A consent search of the vehicle yielded another approximate 328 grams (11o.z.) of processed marijuana, Clone seeds, and a digital scale. Chamberlain was taken into custody and cited for Possession of Marijuana as well as Possession of a controlled substance.

Summary of Incident: On November 27th the State Police investigated a burglary that occurred at a residence on Webster Road in Roxbury. Access to the building was determined to be gained through forced entry. The owner of the property reported the following items were missing a Husqvarna chainsaw, a blue in color Bosch Sabresaw, a black and yellow in color Delta cordless drill and a toolbelt with contents and a green in color toolbox.

Summary of Incident: Vermont State Police responded to Ray Avenue in Lyndonville due to Sheperd attempting to break into Miller’s residence. Sheperd was dating Miller and has two children with Miller. Miller had a male friend, Mechenna Ford, visiting. Sheperd was upset about this; he refused to leave, damaged the residence door and threatened Ford and Miller.  Shepard was released on $10,000 bail.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On November 24, 2009 at approximately 0308 hours, the Williston Police Department initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 2A in the Town of Williston. Upon initial investigation it was determined that the operator, Susan Verba of Burlington, was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed that Verba’s blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit at .158%. Verba was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI #2. Verba will be arraigned on the charge on December 14, 2009.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: At 0315 hours on 11/21/2009 State Police in Middlesex responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on I-89 in Waterbury, VT. Upon arrival it was determined that the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle had been drinking. When asked Sullivan stated that he was visiting a friend and UVM College and left from there to drive back home to Saugus. Sullivan was processed for Driving Under the Influence and has a court date set for December 10th 2009 for face his charge.

Summary of Incident:  On November 20, 2009 at approximately 1930 hours the Vermont State Police from the Williston Barracks observed a truck belonging to Lewis Morris III stuck in a ditch on Rt. 2A in the Town of Williston. Further investigation revealed Morris was intoxicated and had driven into the ditch in an attempt to turn around. Morris’ breath sample indicated he was over three times the legal limit of .08%. Morris was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $500.00 bail. He is to appear in Chittenden District court on November 23, 2009 to answer the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: State Police responded to a call of a motor vehicle complaint were a caller
reported that a vehicle was traveling south on US RTE 5 without headlights,
ignoring stop signs and was swerving all over the roadway. State Police
responded, located the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle in the town of
St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The operator, Samuel Miller, led the State Police on a
short pursuit, before eventually being stopped.
After providing a preliminary breath sample of over double the legal limit
Miller was taken into custody and processed for DUI and attempting to elude.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Several camps on the west side of Willoughby Lake were burglarized around October 19th. Several items were taken, including a Toshiba 27″ TV/DVD combo; a pair of binoculars with a built-in camera; a 12 gauge Beretta Shotgun and a Colt Model 1860 Army .44 caliber cap and ball revolver, this revolver is an original and was in an original holster. SUMMARY OF CRASH:VT State Police Shaftsbury is investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 46 year old Dorset man.  Our investigation has shown that Joseph Ferrante was westbound on VT RT 315 in Rupert at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road.  Ferrante’s 2006 Ford pickup slid across the center lines and off the eastbound lane where it went down an embankment, hit a large tree stump and metal fence. The pickup rolled over and Ferrante was ejected from the pickup.  Ferrante was found deceased at the scene.  His five year old male passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to SVMC in Bennington.

The State Police have received numerous reports that Ferrante was chasing a small red vehicle just prior to the crash. Troopers are interviewing witnesses in an attempt to identify the driver of the red car. Anyone with further information about this crash is asked to call either Sgt. SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 11/08/2009 at approximately 0240 hours the Vermont State Police initiated a motor vehicle stop on Fletcher Road in Fletcher, VT after observing a vehicle operating erratically.

The subsequent motor vehicle stop revealed that the operator, 44-year-old Alan Wescott, was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.  Wescott has three previous convictions for Driving Under the Influence.  However, Wescott made a comment to Troopers about this being his seventh arrest for DUI.

Additionally, further investigation yielded that Wescott had multiple active arrest warrants.  One of these warrants was for Wescott’s failure to appear to serve a prison sentence after being convicted of his third DUI.
 
During the motor vehicle stop a 17-year-old female passenger was identified in the vehicle and was found to be heavily intoxicated.  Troopers learned that Wescott had provided the 17-year-old with alcohol and an empty liter of vodka was found in the vehicle at the 17-year-old’s feet. Due to her extreme level of intoxication, the female was transported to the Northwestern Medical Center for evaluation.

Wescott was subsequently transported to the St. Albans Barracks for processing. During the processing Wescott provided a breath sample which showed his BAC to be .126%.

At the conclusion of the processing Wescott was transported to the Chittenden County Correctional Center where he was lodged pursuant to the arrest warrants.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On October 31, 2009, at approximately 0005 hrs, Troopers from the State Police Barracks in Rutland were dispatched to a one car motor vehicle collision on Danby Hill Road in the town of Danby, Vermont. The vehicle had collided with a telephone pole.  Dispatch advised responding troopers that the male operator of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot toward Danby Village.  Troopers were also advised that the male operator’s two daughters were still in the vehicle.

 Road conditions were dry and weather was clear.

Upon arrival Troopers ascertained the welfare of the children.  Both children (female, ages 6 and 10 years old) advised they were not injured.  While speaking with the two children Troopers learned that the male operator was their father, Larry W. Morris.  The children’s mother and grandmother came to the scene and took custody of the children.  The children were later examined at Rutland Regional Medical Center and released w/out injury.

The telephone pole that was struck was damaged and needed to be repaired by CVPS. The vehicle also broke a residents fence, as well as the residents tree.  The vehicle was towed by Carreras Towing.

Troopers were assisted in locating the male by the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department.  The male, now identified as Larry W. Morris, was still missing. Troopers checked the last residence he was at where they located another male. That male was later arrested for DUI.  Troopers went back to the residence a short time later and were eventually told that Mr. Morris was in the house.  Troopers located Mr. Morris in an upstairs bathroom.  Mr. Morris was placed under arrest and transported to the State Police Barracks in Rutland.

Mr. Morris later provided a breath sample with a result of .169%.  He was charged with DUI #4, as well as leaving the scene of an accident, driving while license suspended criminally, and cruelty to children under 10 by a person over 16 years of age.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On the morning of Sunday October 31, 2009 Vermont State Police New Haven took five reports of vehicular vandalism specifically in the Leicester and Whiting areas. Multiple cars had their rear and side windows broken out with rocks ranging in size from four inches to half the size of a football as reported by victims. Those involved in the incident also threw rocks at a quarter panel on one vehicle creating a large hole and the passenger door of another vehicle. Damages are estimated to be greater than $4,000 dollars.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 10-19-09 at approximately 0125 hours, an armed robbery and carjacking occurred at the Community National Bank in Lyndon, VT.  As a female attempted to make a nightly deposit at the bank, two male suspects, wearing dark-colored ‘hoodies’, jeans, and black handkerchiefs over their faces robbed the female at gunpoint and also stole her vehicle.  The vehicle was later located abandoned off of a side street in Lyndon and has since been recovered by the State Police.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On the night of 10/18/09 Troopers from the Vermont State Police in Bradford responded to the Hammouri residence on Parker Road in Vershire for family fight. Investigation found that Nazeih Hammouri had stabbed his son, Jeffrey Hammouri, in the stomach with a cork screw over an argument regarding a clogged toilet. Nazeih had been drinking at the time of this incident. Nazeih was subsequently arrested for 1st degree aggravated domestic assault and lodged at the NERCF in St. Johnsbury for lack of $15,000.00. Nazeih is scheduled to appear in The Orange County Court House on 10/19/09 @ 1230 hours to face this charge.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On October 11, 2009 at approximately 2347 hours, personnel from the Vermont State Police, Regional Ambulance Service, Pittsford Fire Department, and Pittsford First Response responded to a single vehicle crash off of US Route 7 near Parker Road in Pittsford.  The driver of the involved vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and was determined to be the only person involved.  

The crash is under investigation but appeared to have occurred when Bourgeois traveled off the east side of US Route 7, and rolled his vehicle down an embankment.  It is unclear at this time whether alcohol, drugs or speed were contributing factors in the crash.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: As a result of a criminal investigation by the Lamoille County Special Investigation Unit, William Javery was arrested and arraigned at the Lamoille County District Court for the crimes of Sexual Assault and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a Child. Javery confessed to police that he was involved in a romantic relationship with a 13 year old girl. During that time Javery admitted to having sex with the girl approximately 10 times.

During the relationship Javery lied to the girl telling her he was 17 years of age. The girl later learned that Javery was in fact 25 years of age. Bail was set at $25,000.00 and a peace bond of $5,000.00 was also set.

Conditions of release also state that Javery is not to have contact with any person under the age of 18. Javery is currently lodged at St Johnsbury Correctional Center.

VIOLATION:  Mikel Brady and Joshua HIll are wanted for violating their conditions of release.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 09-04-09 Mikel Brady and Joshua Jill were arrested for a home invasion style Robbery/Burglary in Royalton Vermont.  In addition, Mikel Brady has been charged with another Burglary.  Brady and Hill both posted bail and were released on conditions.  One of their conditions is that they must be at their residence 24 hours/day except for employment, court, or medical reasons.  

On 10-07-09 it was reported that Brady and Hill may have left the area, and were possibly heading to Mexico.  Investigation revealed that Brady and Hill have not been at their places of residence and that they may have fled with Brady’s girlfriend, Kiersten Needham, and Hill’s wife, Jessica O’Connell/Hill. In addition, Jessica Hill has her infant with her and they have a 7 month old pit bull puppy with them as well.

They may be driving a 2001 blue Dodge Caravan with VT REG. EXG748. SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On Thursday, October 1, 2009, Ryan McManus was clocked traveling at a speed on 103 miles per hour @ mile marker 69.5 in Bolton VT.  McManus was subsequently stopped and taken into custody. He was transported to the Middlesex State Police Barracks where he was processed for Negligent Operation. He was released with a citation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:   At approximately 2:18 a.m. Vermont State Police responded to an alarm at Waitsfield Valero on Rt. 17 in Waitsfield. When police arrived on scene, a window was found open. Upon searching the business no one was found on the premises.

The burglars had attempted to pry open the safe but were unsuccessful in doing so. They were unable to make off with anything. If anyone has any information on the incident they are asked to contact Trooper Brandon Doll with the Middlesex State Police at (802) 229-9191.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  State Police were called to investigate a vehicle off the road on Vermont Route 15 in Cambridge at approximately 2300 hours. Vermont State Police Troopers say, upon arriving, they found a 1996 Dodge Dakota off the road in a ditch with it’s back end pointing almost directly towards the sky. Alan Burton, 58, who was operating the pick-up was still in the driver’s seat smoking a cigarette when approached by police.
A preliminary breath test showed Burton’s  BAC to be almost three times the legal limit.  Burton was arrested for DUI and was processed at the Lamoille State Police Outpost and was later lodged as an incapacitated person at the Northeast Regional Correctional Center in St. Johnsbury. He is scheduled to appear in Lamoille District Court on 10/13/09.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On 09-17-09 at approximately 06:15 hours Pape was stopped on
I-89 at mm 45 southbound Williamstown for travelling at 89 mph in a posted 65
mph zone. Upon talking with Pape he advised that he thought he was travelling at
80 mph.

He also advised his license was suspended. A record check confirmed that
Pape was suspended in Vermont for multiple reasons. He was taken into custody
without incident and transported to the State Police Barracks Middlesex for
processing. He was later released with a citation to appear in the Orange County
District Court on 10-28-2009.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On the above date and time two people entered a residence on Spring Street in St. Johnsbury. Police were notified a short time later when the property owner arrived home and observed items were out of place and some items missing. A neighbor was able to provide police with a description of the offenders. Police are pursuing leads. SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Vermont State Police, in conjunction with the Washington County Special Investigations Unit, conducted a thorough investigation into allegations that Curtis sexually abused a 4-year old child. He was lodged at the Chittenden Correctional Center for lack of $5000 bail.

Curtis was arraigned in Chittenden County District Court this morning (9/4/09). On the recommendation of Washington County State’s Attorney Tom Kelly, Curtis was held without bail following his arraignment. If convicted, this will be Curtis’ second offense of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a child, which carries a maximum term of life imprisonment.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 09.04.09 at approximately 1643 hours the Vermont State Police
received a report of a dead body located off of Gorge Road in Clarendon,VT. Gorge Road is a dirt road in a heavily wooded area. State Police responded and located a deceased male, later identified as 67-year old Charles Graham of Middlebury, VT. Mr. Graham’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington
where an autopsy was performed earlier today. The results of the autopsy are such that the cause of death is not immediately known, however, there were no signs of foul play and the State Police are calling this an undetermined death until further information is garnered.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:On September 2, 2009 Vermont State Police Detective Sergeant J.R. Underhill formally charged State Inmates Christopher R. Sordiff, Shawn P. Foy and David Lee Oleson each with one count of Extortion.

State Police were notified when an alert correctional officer noticed suspicious activity involving victim Aaron R. Demers and the other three inmates .
Investigation revealed that Demers was threatened with bodily injury unless he obtained money from his father. The money was to be used to raise bail for one of the inmates.
The joint investigation is being conducted by the Vermont State Police- Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) with the assistance of the Vermont Department of Corrections.
The crime of extortion carries a penalty of imprisonment of not more than three (3) years or fines not to exceed $500.00 or both.
The three inmates were issued court citations to appear before a judicial officer on October 13, 2009.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Officer MacPherson was on patrol when he observed a green crotch rocket type motorcycle run the stop sign at the intersection of Pearl and Maple Street and accelerate at approximately 60 MPH
up Maple Street. Ofc. MacPherson observed the motorcycle run three more stop signs at a high rate of speed. Once the blue lights were activated the bike did not stop and while trying to make the corner at the intersection of Winter
Street and Cliff Street the motorcycle left the roadway and traveled into the woods. The driver of the 1989 Kawasaki Ninja was BillyJoe Allen, 30 of Greensboro Bend, Vt. Allen sustained moderate injury as a result of the crash
and was transported to NVRH by Calex. Allen’s approximate speed at the time of the crash was about 30 MPH. Allen was charged with Careless and Negligent Operation and was issued several tickets totaling $1556.00.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Morristown Police Department was notified of an armed robbery at the Morrisville Mobil located on VT RTE 15 at approximately 02:28. Officer Reeve was driving by the location as the call was being dispatched and observed the vehicle traveling west on VT RTE 15. A traffic stop was conducted and the suspects were taken into custody. During the course of the investigation officers of the Morristown Police Department learned the suspects had also robbed the Barton One Stop earlier in the evening.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 8/16/09 at approximately 09:30 hours Officer Rick Greenough was running stationary radar on East Main Street. Officer Greenough attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle driving in excess of the posted speed limit of 30 MPH. The operator refused to stop and a chase ensued. After a brief 2.5 mile pursuit the motor cycle was stopped and the operator, Joseph Courtemanche, 43, of South Burlington was taken into custody and charged with numerous traffic violations and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Scott Haldane was driving his motorcycle in Reservoir Road when a deer jumped out in front of his motorcycle. Haldane swerved to avoid the deer and drove off the roadway.  Haldane was found lying in a ditch near his motorcycle by a passing motorist.  The passing motorist transported Haldane to the Central Vermont Hospital.  Haldane had been drinking and was processed for DUI at the Central Vermont Hospital. Haldane refused to provide a sample of his blood as evidence. Charges are pending.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  Officers from the St. Johnsbury Police department along with Probation and Parole went to a residence on North Avenue after receiving a tip about a possible whereabouts of a wanted subject. Once at the residence, Officer Bickford spoke with the tenants of the apartment and was given permission to search the residence. During the search, the wanted person, Stephen Macnevins, was located hiding under a bed in the far bedroom. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident. MacNevins was found in possession of marijuana and issued a citation to appear in Caledonia Court. MacNevins was lodged at the correctional center on three active warrants.

Heather Schools, 28, of Mexico Beach, FL and formerly of St. Johnsbury, VT, was found in a vehicle that had stopped at the Cumberland Farms in St. Johnsbury. Schools was lodged at the Correctional Center in St. Johnsbury following processing with a $250.00 bail.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: While conducting patrols in the village, a passenger car was observed traveling North on Railroad Street with no headlights on. The motor vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Portland Street and Railroad Street, and the driver identified as Hunter S. Sanford, 19, of Lyndonville. During the stop it was determined that Sanford had been drinking and was subsequently taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence. Sanford was
issued traffic tickets for Driving without a License and Operating Without Liability Insurance. Sanford was cited to appear in Caledonia District Court on August 24, 2009 to answer to the charge.
