Woman Struck and Killed Trying to Save Cat on Interstate

 Dummerston, Vt. – January 31, 2010 – A 75-year old woman was killed Sunday when she stopped her vehicle and attempted to rescue a cat  that she had observed in the median. 

A 28-year old man from Connecticut was driving a 2007 Mazda 6 heading southbound on Interstate 91 in Dummerston when Cynthia Long, 75, of Putney, Vt. walked across the passing lane and was struck by the man’s southbound vehicle.   Long sustained fatal injuries as a result of this crash said Vt. State Police, who continue to investigate the crash.

The southbound lane of Interstate 91was closed for approximately three hours following the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to call the Vermont State Police Brattleboro at 802-254-2382 and ask for Trooper Wagenbach.
