Middlesex, Vt. – January 27, 2010 – Floodwaters from the recent warm weather are receding around the region. The only spot report received indicating damage was from the town of Chester where Popple Dungeon Road in Chester, Vt., received damage due to flooding. Residents of one home were evacuated says Vermont Emergency Management Duty Officer Raymond Doherty.
A large ice jam hundreds of yards wide along River Road in Middlesex yesterday closed the road where water and ice were flowing about 2 feet deep across the roadway and surrounding fields, preventing some residents from reaching their homes or leaving them by car.
Other ice jams in Montpelier, Cambridge, and Johnson appear to be stabilized right now and there is no imminent danger of flooding reported Doherty.

River gauges report water levels are now well below flood stage. There were many local roads in Williston, Richmond and Essex Junction that were affected by flood waters from the Winooski River, but the water is receding at this time.
State officals say there are no active situations now which would lead to major flooding and that cooler weather has helped diminish the immediate threat of flooding as cooler temperatures have stopped the snow melt, runoff, etc.
