South Londonderry, Vt. – December 22, 2009 - Vermont legislator Rick Hube, 62, of South Londonderry passed away Tuesday, suffering an aortic aneurysm while in Florida visiting relatives. Hube had served in the Vermont House since 1999. He first moved to Vermont from Connecticut in 1978, working initially as a laborer at the Stratton Mountain golf course and spent one winter on the Stratton Ski Patrol.
A man with entrepreneurial spirit, he began his management firm, Hube, Inc. in 1990.
In State government, he had been appointed to the House-Senate Joint Rules Committee and the House Commerce, Judiciary, Government Operations and Rules Committees. He had also been Assistant Majority Leader and served as Vice Chair of Government Operations. Rick was elected by fellow legislators to the University of Vermont Board of Trustees and was a trustee of the Chapel of the Snows.
He had been working to assist Governor Douglas in implementing an economic growth plan for Vermont in the face of the current economic uncertainty.
Vermont GOP Chairman Steve Larrabee said of Hube, “I was deeply saddened to hear of Rick’s sudden passing. I wish to offer Rick’s family my heartfelt sympathy. I had the distinct privilege of serving with Rick in the legislature for many years. I will remember Rick as a hard working legislator, always thinking of innovative ways to tackle any issue.
“His quick wit and humor always made some of our more serious moments and days easier to navigate. The state of Vermont has lost one of it’s truly great legislators. His presence in the Statehouse will be missed,” said Larabee.
Congressman Peter Welch said, “Vermont has lost a great legislator, and so many Vermonters have lost a true friend. Rick had a sharp wit, a deep intelligence and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a legislator who built bridges, who worked with those of every viewpoint to improve the state he loved so much. Above all, he was a man of deep principle. All of us who knew Rick were the better for it.”
