Burlington, Vt. – About 350 members of the Vermont National Guard’s largest all-Vermont combat unit, the 172nd Cavalry squadron, left today for training at Camp Atterbury in Indiana specific to their deployment in Afghanistan. The soldiers represent Vermont Army National Guard Armories in St. Albans, Swanton, Enosburg, Newport, Lyndonville, and Bennington.
This group of soldiers will benefit from the generosity of Vermonters who have contributed to Operation Homecoming. During a scheduled training break over the holidays, the soldiers will board buses and travel back to Vermont to celebrate the holidays with their families and friends before returning to complete their training in Indiana.
