Burlington, Vt. – 118 competitors leapt into the water during the Burlington Triathlon at North Beach, Sunday, September 13, 2009. Cloudy skies and some rain showers kept conditions a bit spicy as several racers crashed during the bicycle portion but the event was a success by many counts. John Spinney of Waterbury, Vt. took first place overall with a time of 2:02:38.6 while Jessie Donavan of Charlotte, Vt., was the first women to cross the line, winning that division with a time of 2:10:42.7.
“It was a success!” said Race Director Rayne Herzog of RaceVermont.com, which organized the event. “We were happy with how easily spectators were able to move around and watch.” said Herzog. Another major factor, Herzog explained, was that Burlington Police were happy with how smoothly it went and the organizational elements behind the event. He felt the triathlon would definitely be back next year.
