Charleston Firefighter Dies After Losing Control of Firetruck

Charleston, Vt. – Town of Charleston Volunteer Fire Department tanker/pumper truck crashed on Dane Hill Road in the Town of Charleston while returning from a fire call, Sunday, August 30.  The operator of the vehicle was volunteer fire fighter Kenneth Frizzell Jr., age 55, of Charleston.  Frizzell, according to police, was returning from a fire call and headed down Dane Hill Road when he lost control of the vehicle.  The truck left the road, striking a telephone pole, and breaking it in half.  The truck then rolled and came to rest in a forested area after sustaining heavy damage.   Frizzell was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead on scene. Mr. Frizzell was the only occupant in the vehicle.
Police said, witnesses observed the truck to be traveling at an unusual speed for the steep grade of the road prior to the crash.
